Journals:
Writing is an important part of your child's school curriculum, but it's not easy! A great way to help your child practice their writing skills and develop their confidence is through journal writing.
First, start by letting your child pick out their very own journal. You can take your child to the store and let them shop for a journal or simply decorate one you already have. You can decorate it with stickers, sparkles, drawings, etc. When children have a journal that they like it adds to the excitement.
Next, brainstorm with your child some things to write about. Focus on things they like games, movies, animals, friends, etc. This can help you with writing topics. You can even create an idea jar, as you think of writing topics write them on a piece of paper and put them in the jar. Then when it's time to write pull out an idea.
Last, enjoy the experience. Don't let writing become stressful. Set small goals with your child first. If they hit a block have them write one or two sentences about the topic, take a break, and then come back to it later. Also, when students hit a block let them spend some time illustrating their ideas. This can help them get the ideas flowing.
